Bethlehem late 1800s – Palestinian Woman with Water Jug

Contributed by Fayez (Frank) Nasser on 27.10.2007:

Bethlehem late 1800s A Palestinian woman with a water jug balanced on her head. Since biblical times, one of the daily duties of Palestinian women was to provide fresh water to be used for drinking, cooking and washing. This task was usually done early in the morning or late in the evening. Earthenware jars were used for transporting and storing water, oil and other liquids. The earthenware pottery kept the water cool on hot summer days. Original Content Creator: Fayez (Frank) Nasser / Toronto, Canada
