Woman and Child with Jarousha

This woman is posing in the Artas Folklore Center Museum with the Jarousha, formerly used to grind grain. She was a child when Louisa Baldensperger, daughter of French missionaries, known in the village as Sitt Louisa, and Hilma Granqvist, a Finnish anthropologist lived in Artas.

The richly embroidered sleeves of the women radiate from the henna pot.If Leilit il Henna has stopped being observed in many towns and cities, the tradition is still kept up in Beit Sahour.
