The Solomon Pools area is well-known for its greenery, including pine trees. It used to be a favorite picnic place for inhabitants of Bethlehem and the surrounding villages. In is presently one of the very few forested areas in the Bethlehem district, after the forest of Abu Ghneim, the hill north of Bethlehem, was removed to make place for the settlement of Har Homa (1997). The only forest near Bethlehem is located at the beginning of Wadi Khreitoun, to the south east of Bethlehem on a 20-minute drive. However, this forest is near Israeli settlements and therefore not free for Palestinian youth to be entered, as they are concerned to meet armed Israeli settlers. So in practice, the Solomon Pools is the only accessible forested area in the neighborhood of Bethlehem..
